A DAY IN THE LIFE: LUCAS VERISSIMO
PART TWO - THE CALIFORNIA.
Following Part One: QUIET, we are back in São Paulo with photographer Fernando Mendes at Lucas Verissimo's downtown offices, headquarters to his brand, Singapura @welcometosingapura.
Here we chat with the young entrepreneur about everything from what it takes to run an apparel brand in 2021, to growing cotton and rock climbing. Surprisingly, we learn California is one of the major influences on his daily life and the brand. In particular, the Golden State's great outdoors and the lifestyle that comes with it, a lifestyle Lucas lived for a year, left a mark on him. And he can’t wait to go back.
For that to happen though, Singapura has to thrive. The feeling is it will. The brand’s offices—painted entirely white and furnished with pieces Lucas is building with the friend who designed them—give off vibes of good things to come.
Lucas’ main work table faces wide a metal-framed window panel looking out to the courtyard of the vast 13-floor office complex. Built in the 50s, the building is among many similar structures that define the downtown São Paulo architectural style, with a notable exception: being planned by famed architects Carlos Lemos and the notorious Oscar Niemeyer. Niemeyer would later gain worldwide recognition for planning and designing Brazil's future capital city: Brasilia.
Though for Lucas, something else sets the place apart. Ironically, he points out, of all things, the building's name: The California Building.
