Most days André Marchetto, also know as DECO, makes a living criss-crossing the streets of downtown São Paulo on a fixed-gear bike with a rig packed with parcels attached to the rear. A friend of OBRA® featured photographer Fernando Mendes, we caught up with DECO to find out who he is and what it's like to be a bike courier in Brazil's largest city.

OBRA: Who is André Marchetto?
DECO: 26, Father, Married, born and raised in São Paulo, capital. Been skateboarding for 10 years, and downtown courier for three. Skateboarding is just for fun—being a courier is for revenue. I make my own schedule working everyday for the biggest E-commerce sites in Brazil, like Magazine Luiza, Netshoes and Surreal São Paulo, to small and independent brands such as OBRA. Whatever the vehicle, skateboard or bike, I have all the freedom that the downtown ghetto provides.

OBRA: How many kilometers do you ride in a typical workday?
DECO: It depends a lot on the schedule, it has already reached 90 the average and maximum of 135km.
OBRA: And how many deliveries, on average?
DECO: 30 on average, but in times of collection launches or sales, it can reach up to 70 deliveries or more.
OBRA: What are the challenges of being a courier in São Paulo?
DECO: It's not even the traffic. Sometimes I have to convince people of the obvious, that the service works.
OBRA: What do you like most about the job?
DECO: The freedom to make your own schedule, have flexible hours. The wind in your face, to be free in the city and not in an office. Practicing a sport and still making money, it is very rewarding to be able to sustain your family riding a fixie.
OBRA: Tell us about your bike and rig? Did you build them yourself?
DECO: I have three bikes, the three being fixed gear, by my own choice. I don't have another type of bike, even with the rig. People say I'm crazy to work with a fixie and maybe I am. The trailer I bought ready via the internet.
OBRA: Is it common for couriers in São Paulo to have rigs?
DECO: It is not common, but large delivery companies and commerces are increasingly using bike couriers in Brazil, so cargo bikes are becoming more popular. But only a few people use trailers.
OBRA: Are your OBRA sneakers getting good usage?
DECO: They are one of the best sneakers I have ever worn. They broke in within a few hours. They are a perfect combination of street, style and comfort.

DECO: Depende muito da Agenda, já chegou a ser 90 a media e maxima de 135km.
OBRA: E quantas entregas, na média?
DECO: 30 a media, chegando a dias como 70 volumes ou mais, em épocas de lançamentos de coleção ou sale por exemplo.
OBRA: Quais os desafios de ser courier em SP?
DECO: Não diria nem o transito, mas as vezes de ter que convencer de algo óbvio, que o serviço funciona.
OBRA: O que você mais curte do trampo?
DECO: A liberdade de fazer sua agenda, ter horários flexíveis, o vento na cara, estar livre na cidade e não em um escritório. Praticar um esporte e ainda fazer dinheiro, com certeza é muito gratificante poder manter sua Família em cima de uma bike fixa.
OBRA: Fale um pouco da sua bike e reboque. Você mesmo as montou?
DECO: Tenho três Bikes, sendo as três Fixa, por opção própria, não tenho outro modelo de bike, inclusive com o reboque, dizem que sou louco em trabalhar de Fixa e talvez Eu seja. O reboque comprei pronto via internet.
OBRA: É comum couriers terem reboque?
DECO: Não é comum, mais esta crescendo no Brasil a utilização de Courrier em grandes Transportadoras e E-commerces, mais mesmo assim se vê mais Cargueiras, reboque apenas poucas pessoas utilizam.
OBRA: Os seus tênis OBRA estão rendendo?
DECO: Um dos melhores tenis que ja usei, se adaptou ao pé em poucas horas. Combinação perfeita para as ruas, estilo e conforto. Otimo!
